Paid internship in the Dessimoz Lab at UCL

Start date: from 15 Apr 2015, up to 4.5 months

Project description

The intern will contribute to a research collaboration between the Dessimoz Lab at UCL and Bayer CropScience NV (Ghent, Belgium) for the development of new methods and resources to better characterise evolutionary and functional relationships between model plant genomes and agronomically-relevant crop genomes.

The intern will be embedded in the Dessimoz Lab and work with a team of researchers . The prospective intern is encouraged (but not required) to apply to the related PhD position as well.

The successful applicant will be provided with strong mentorship. Past interns of the lab have had very good success obtaining PhD positions in top places.

Eligibility

• Strong (first or upper second class) undergraduate or postgraduate degree, preferably with a strong quantitative component (bioinformatics, genetics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related subject).
• UK resident

Profile Sought

• High degree of self-motivation
• Good ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated programming skills
• Ideally, prior experience in computational biology research
